Every order is mixed, filled and iced by hand in our small Devon kitchen — no shortcuts, no fondant shortcuts either, just proper cake.
See what we bakeMartin's Cakes started in a converted garage in 2011 with one oven and a stack of order books borrowed from the local post office. Fifteen years on we're still in Ashcombe, still small, and still baking every cake to order rather than pulling one from a chiller cabinet. If you've got a birthday, christening, retirement or "just because" coming up, there's a good chance we've already made something like it before — and if we haven't, we'll enjoy figuring it out.
We keep our week deliberately short: a handful of cakes collected or delivered Tuesday to Saturday, each one given proper attention rather than squeezed in. That means we do sometimes say no to last-minute orders, but it also means what leaves the kitchen actually tastes of butter, eggs and whatever fruit or chocolate is meant to be in it.
Birthdays, anniversaries and christenings, iced to a theme or kept simple.
Tiered cakes designed around your colours, tasted and agreed in advance.
Perfect for office collections, school fetes and village hall teas.
"We asked for something for our daughter's christening about six weeks out and Martin's talked us through flavours over the phone like it was the easiest thing in the world. It wasn't a fuss at all, and the cake didn't last the afternoon." — a regular customer, Ashcombe
Have a look at our cake range for an idea of sizes and prices, or head straight to the contact page to talk through your order — we'd rather have a proper conversation about what you need than guess from a form.
